If only's and but's were candy and nuts.

If Jones ran his life according to his every desire he would have a sock in his mouth at all times. I know for a fact that he would try to eat meals with it still in tact.

The neighborhood

We took a walk to the grocery store today. These are just a few of the beautiful homes we get to look at in our neighborhood. And when I say "our" neighborhood I mean the expensive community outside of our dull apartment complex. :)

The road leading to our apartments on the right.

We concluded the walk with some play time.

The lawn mower man was out and about. Enthralling.

Nerd alert

Thanks for the sandals, Courtney, but they're kind of nerdy.
Or maybe it's just the shirt.
Or maybe it's the pink scooter.

But we have to go inside.

For starters, look at your double runny nose. And I heard about a recent ruling that prohibits all babies with only 4 visible teeth from playing in the sand.

Just thinking about baby Jones

September 19th

Jones' 1st birthday. We didn't do much today - what with church, naps, and dinner- but we had a wonderful time. Here are two shots from many, many, many that were taken. More to come.

The activities.

The clean up.

Skills

Hats. They go on our heads. Excellent comprehension skills, Jones.

Walking? Still figuring it out. Going down like a champ? Mastered.

Jones lives by this philosophy: "If at first you don't succeed, just eat it."

Long story short

Yesterday at 10:00 AM there was a small fire in our apartment complex. The alarm went off, I grabbed Jones, and headed outside. Everybody was fine.

Sometimes I wear red lipstick.

You think these two events are unrelated. They are not.

As I dashed outside with Jones donning some red lips, I knew my neighbors would think I was strange. People here don't wear lipstick.

After the commotion died down we said goodbye to our neighbors and walked home. Long story short, before parting ways completely, one of the dad's asked me, "Just curious, is the lipstick leftover from something?"

Confusedly, I said that I just wear lipstick sometimes.

All afternoon my mind kept going to back to his awkward question. Leftover from what? Leftover from my secret life as a working girl? Leftover from my early morning hot date? Leftover from my theater rehearsals? Leftover from my gig as a clown? I still don't know what he had in mind.

Roots

Jones woke up feeling sentimental. As his first birthday approaches he finds himself pondering his first days in the city by the bay.

He begged me to wear this shirt today.

(Judi, your turquoise suggestion was already on the other couch. Great decorators think alike.)

(thank you Mallory for yet another excellent tee)

Jones can read

Well, not really, but I'm sure he's way smarter having gone to the Madison Children's Museum. Admission: $2. Making your child more intelligent than all other kids his age: priceless. Just kidding. Your kid is smart too...if you consider eating your own boogers brain food.

Jones taped up his name all by himself. He's brilliant AND he can levitate. (See proof below)

I know it may look like I'm holding him up, but it's an optical illusion. I'm just standing behind him applauding his greatness. Note how nonchalant he is about the whole thing. Being awesome is no big deal to Jones.

The Water Room: best activity by far. The efficacy of those smocks? Not ideal.

Fountains in the water room. Jones actually hand crafted one of these for our tub last night, with a few improvements.

Dunking his hands...and eventually his forehead. Learning the properties of water by osmosis.

This is how a genius looks when hypothesizing.

Bird's eye view from a dinosaur skeleton. This bored Jones as he's already accustomed to seeing the peasants from on high. Those are his words, not mine.

Creepy donkey-mule-bull-goat.

Jones was less interested in the imaginary animal and more interested in using his perfect pitch to identify the note played by the bell.

Even creepier babies and chicken carcass in some sort of Native American edifice. Jones was not lured in by what was clearly a trap laid to ensnare less intelligent children.

Calculating the soil conditions necessary to grow root vegetables in an indoor climate.

Jones with our neighbor Addy. She was trying to force him to look at the camera. Jones got mad and challenged her to a spelling bee. He dominated her with the word "circumvent".

Rooftop garden. Just taking a break from naming indigenous plant species and discovering a new ecosystem.

All in all, Jones was moderately stimulated by the museum and contemplated his discoveries while enjoying a mild cheddar cheese on his classy bus ride home.

Cheap thrills

This box is a new favorite around here. Somehow little man crams his chunky body into it and sits there like a turkey.

Get a tissue, Jones.

A clean $40 couch in great condition? Yes, please. Just an hour before buying this we were tempted by a $695 couch that was a little less cool. I can't believe we got so lucky (don't mind the wonky center leg...it's fine).
