Pat the Bunny

What a nice way to end the day.

Babylegs

Our friends, the Nylands, are visiting us from Seattle and they brought with them a pair of babylegs for Jones. Naturally I had to take four hundred pictures of Jones in them.

He's a real boy

PINNOCHIO.

Jones at church today. All he needs it a cricket and a hat.

March twenty fourth

On Wednesday we took a walk to an ice cream shop up the road. Scott had a single scoop of Bumpy Freeway and I had a junior scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip. Jones had nothing. But he did get to wear his robot hat and watch pigeons.

Love me a changing table baby

At Jones' 6 month check up on Tuesday his stats were:
Weight: 16 lbs (25th percentile)
Height: 26" (50th percentile)
Head: 75th percentile

He has a minor rash on his cheeks and neck from drooling? daddy's kisses? rubbing his face in his sheet? It is looking better today and will probably be gone by week's end. Jones is a very active, loud and happy boy and we are enjoying him every day. Even when he poops in the car while driving Scott to school and we have to roll down the windows because it stinks like --as Scott described it-- roast beef. Diiiisgusting. And of course I got to change him when we got home and it was a fabulous mess.

Because JuJu asked

This is not a very exciting post, but Jonesy's grandparents want to see more Jones.
Enjoy.

Six Months

Jones' half birthday is today, so in honor I post this video of some of his new skills. What did Jones do to celebrate? He threw up and then pooped through his diaper mere moments after this video was taken. Nice.

I can die happy

Not to take away from the excitement of the last post...but I just got my baby video monitor today--using it this very moment for sleeping baby--and I am ecstatic. Scott knows just how annoyingly often I check on the baby during naps and I am happy to say goodbye to those check-ins. I am also happy to say hello to peace of mind. I have been a paranoid mom since day one (poking the baby to make sure he's alive...) and this makes me feel so at ease. Why didn't I just invest in one of these from the start?

News about PhD program

Their mascot is a badger.

Their campus is stunning.

I got accepted to the University of Wisconsin at Madison's Anthropology Department for my PhD. They have one of the best Southeast Asian centers in the world and they are known for their work in Thailand. So, it's a pretty good fit for me. Hopefully I'll be studying a few more SE Asian languages.
I also got rejected to everywhere else I applied (a hit to my ego), so my decision was easy. Madison is beautiful and also really cold. I am very excited, and I think Whitney is as well.

Nothing else to post today

Because I have no new photos of the Super Blog star, baby Jones, I thought I'd create a post of photos from recent years past. I'm posting the third picture in every folder on the computer (or at least until I get bored) and let's just see what we come up with. Excited?

Bored now. The end.

March fourteenth

Jones has a new gig at the ship yard rigging masts and swabbing decks. It's thankless work, but somebody has to do it.

His cozy kicks are the envy of all the other baby day laborers.

When Jones gets home from a shift at the "yard"--as he puts it-- he likes to wind down with a light puree and some online television programs. He's a junkie for daytime soaps and old Judge Judy episodes. She's the boss, applesauce.

Poor quality nap photo of the day

Rare sighting. Nap on tummy. Never before seen in baby's natural habitat. Hoping said baby won't regurgitate pear puree.

This napping photo might not look too exciting to you, but boy howdy it's exciting to me. Jones has been fighting his naps (crying for at least 60 minutes) almost every day for the last month. I changed up our morning routine a bit this morning...and voila. It took him about 20-25 minutes to fall asleep, but there was no crying. He just talked to himself, pulled at his socks, ate his feet and then fell asleep on his side. He has never slept without a blanket or swaddle, so this is pretty amazing. I could go on and on.

I love the stray sock that didn't survive the battle with his chubby, little hands.

The Last Meal

Came across these old cell phone photos recently. They were taken at the pizza place where Scott and I ate on our way to the hospital to have Jones. Boy was I big. Maybe you can't tell, but when I look at my wrist in this photo it looks very swollen.

.....

Testing out larger photos for the blog, among other changes.

Looks like the larger photos are working out well. I'm also happy with the new 3-column layout. EGGcelent...

Thanks

Photobucket

I give thanks for Jones every day. I am grateful to my Heavenly Father that Jones is the wonderful, healthy boy that he is and that Scott and I have been blessed with the gift of raising him. Almost daily I hear myself telling Scott that I can't believe how much I love this boy. It's embarrassing to admit, but I am often brought to tears when I think about what my world is like with him in it. Being a mother has required a sacrifice of my time, energy and vanity, but it is worth it in ways that I can not describe.

I hope that I will never take it for granted.
