Havasupai

Last weekend the husband and I trekked across the deserts of Arizona into a paradisical land known as Havasupai. Its an oasis in the middle of a hot, dry, rocky canyon. It was an intense 22-mile round trip venture, rewarded by a trifecta of waterfall bliss. I have never walked 11 miles at one time in my life, let alone hiked it with a full pack in the middle of the wee morning hours on little to no sleep. Many times I thought, "I'm going to die along the side of this sandy trail only to be eaten by wild dogs or trampled by smelly donkeys." Much to my surprise I made it to the campground, but then felt unable to do any physical task for at least an hour and a half. The two days we spent camping were filled with cliff jumping (not for me though), standing in a river and swimming in turquoise pools. There was an option to get helicoptered out, but we decided to hike the 11 miles again. Little did I know that it would be much more difficult than the hike in. I nibbled an Apple Cinnamon Power Bar bit by bit (my only food for the nearly dozen mile trek, due to the rest of the food getting lost earlier that morning)for the 4 hour hike and even managed to share some of it with Scott. Ironically, about 200 feet away from the end of the hike we discovered the "missing" food in Scott's pack and feasted upon it eagerly. The end.

I was wondering when you would post again. Congrats on surviving the hike. I'm going camping this weekend for the first time in over 10 years. Pray for me.

You're in my prayers...best wishes. A thought: the easiest part of camping is looking so dang good the whole time.

Look at that topless picture of Scott (sounds so dirty but really it isn't)- he's disappearing!
